TESTIMONIALS

I believe that Carryl Bennett would serve us all as a great District Representative. Carryl is an honest, hard working, professional and loyal teacher. She puts the needs of her students and colleagues above her own. As the local president of Greater St. Albert Catholic Teachers Local, Carryl has mentored me as I have become more active in the ATA. She is very knowledgeable in regards to policy, contracts, professional development and is a great leader. She is able to build strong relationships and will do what it takes to make sure everyone around her has a voice and is heard. Carryl will work hard for the locals she will represent as our DR.

Rob Rawcliffe - Vice-Principal in Greater St Albert Catholic

I have known and had the pleasure of working with Carryl in various aspects over the past 15 years. She is a dedicated person and works endlessly to complete the task at hand. She does not shy away from hard work and willing takes on jobs that need doing.

As president of our Local, she has developed a strong executive. She values everyone’s diverse and unique strengths. She appreciates all opinions and I have never been leery about expressing my thoughts, even opposing ones. Carryl leads by example and has the ability to bring out the best in people while also bringing them together to work as a team for a common goal.

Carryl is an excellent candidate for District Representative.

Debra Kaplar - Vice-President Greater St Albert Catholic Local #23

I am pleased to support Carryl Bennett as our District Representative.  First encountering her at our Local Council of School Rep meetings, I realized she has a way of encouraging others and offering at the elbow support to take on roles and explore their own interests in our Association. In my role now as DEHR Chair, she continues to support our work with her time, her vision, her ATA connections and willingness to help our committee succeed.  The dedication that Carryl has means she is passionate about everyone’s voice being heard and this is evident at all of our events and meetings.  Her talents, zeal and work-ethic will make her a committed and passionate representative for our area Locals.  Carryl has my vote for D.R.!

Phyllis Kelly - DEHR Chair Greater St Albert Catholic Local #23

I have enjoyed sitting under Carryl's leadership for the past two and a half years and my respect and admiration for her has increased with every encounter.  She is a talented and natural born leader who consistently shows respect for the people with whom she is communicating.  She is extremely knowledgeable while maintaining a great balance of empathy and encouragement.  I feel honoured to call her my friend and I am confident that she will make an extraordinary District Representative.

Janet Vader - Past President NCTCA

I have known Carryl for the better part of seven years, but this current year, I am her direct supervisor being the principal of Sister Alphonse Academy.

I have always known Carryl to be an exceptional hardworking individual. No matter what the task, Carryl always puts a lot of time and energy to make sure it is done right. It is also not uncommon for her to use her own personal time to make sure deadlines are met and the job is done properly. In fact, I would say her work ethic is one of her biggest strengths and a significant reason why she excels as both an educator and as our Local ATA President.

Another thing I appreciate about Carryl is how good she is with communication. Not only is she a great mentor to new staff coming into the profession, but her knowledge of the ATA, our Code of Conduct, bargaining, etc., is second to no one. At the school level I have come to rely on Carryl for so much and she has always delivered. Not only does she do a wonderful job with the things mentioned above, but she also acts as our OH&S liaison and is also a key member of our Hour Zero team. Truly Carryl wears a lot of hats and is a fountain of information for not only us as a school, but also for the entire school division.

As I reflect on Carryl’s strengths, I have always been impressed with how great she is at communicating with people. She always takes the time to answer questions and will even have information sessions for staff so they have all the information needed to make an informed decision on particular topics. Even more impressive is the fact that she openly looks for feedback on various topics as she feels that everyone needs to have a voice. I have noticed on many occasions that Carryl will do her best to bring people together with the goal of keeping people not only informed, but engaged with current, relevant events for educators.

In closing, I just wanted to say that I think Carryl would make an excellent District Representative. She has all the necessary tools and skills to do the job and I know if she is applying for a position like this, that she is passionate about it and will do everything in her power to excel. I certainly wish her the best of luck and I know she will uphold the beliefs and values associated with such a position.

Don Hinks - Principal of Sister Alphonse Academy

I’ve known Carryl for a number of years, both as a teaching and ATA colleague. Throughout the pandemic, Carryl worked tirelessly to represent the profession, while creating space for teachers to share their concerns and worries about working conditions. Carryl is a driven, passionate advocate for teachers, students and public education, and doesn’t hesitate to speak up for her profession. Carryl is a keen and compassionate listener, who always seeks to deepen her knowledge if she doesn’t have the information needed on hand. Carryl would bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position of DR, with all the various “hats” she’s worn as Local President, PD Chair, NCTCA president, and science conference president (among others!). Carryl is a dedicated professional, trustworthy and reliable, always acting with integrity. Your voice will be heard with Carryl as DR!

Richard Wirth - Vice-President Greater St. Albert Catholic Local #23

Carryl and I both suffer from "many hats" syndrome, and I've had the chance to work with her in many ways through out our ATA work. Most notable has been working with her on Science Council, Carryl has been a mentor to me on the council from joining as "I'm happy to help out if needed" to serving as Vice President. Carryl is always focused on providing the best for our members, while respecting the time and resources of all involved.  Her experience and views will be an asset to provincial council and the ATA as a whole.

James Slattery - President ATA Science Council

Carryl Bennett is an inspiring and motivated individual that sparks excitement in others and the desire to do better. She is a very professional and accepting colleague. Carryl Bennett advocates for the staff and students in our district and speaks up when she feels that something is unjust. From the time I met Carryl, I have developed a passion for the ATA and my profession in a way I hadn’t thought of before. She makes others feel that their voice is heard and that we can truly make a difference. Carryl holds many positions in our local and always finds a great balance while keeping the members of our local informed and organized.
